Back to School Plans {with links to Freebies}

My teammate and I met last week to plan out our Unit 1 for ELA.  Our district has outlined themes, genres, and standards we are to use in our ELA instruction.  We sat down and planned out the first six weeks and now are working on writing the plans so we can share them with our teammates.  {See this post to see how we utilize team planning at my school.}

This got me thinking about the first week of school and how I needed to start figuring out what I am going to do with my kiddos.  I get bored with doing the same thing every year and with Pinterest and Blogging I have discovered MANY more fun ideas to use.  We also start on a Monday this year which  makes for a long week and one where I don't want to just dive right in into instruction.

My plan for the week is to do some class building and team building activities along with teaching procedures and starting some skills with mini-lessons.  I like to be overly prepared because I don't want to run out of things to do.

If you click on my plans it will take you to a editable Google Doc where you can right click on the links to find the products I am incorporating {you will have to scroll to the second page}.  Here are just a few products I am using:

Several of the products are Free on TpT

What are some activities and/or products you are using your first days Back to School?

Don't forget my Back to School Giveaway ends soon!

  2. WOW! You are on top of things and certainly getting me motivated! Have you guys made the full transition to Common Core standards? We are this year and I am working on re-working my curriculum! Since we both teach 4th grade we should definitely collaborate and share lessons, curriculum pacing, etc! I can't wait to look through what you already have planned! Thanks for sharing :)
