Mentor Text {Magic School Bus: Amazing Magnetism}

Last week I was busy working in my classroom, tomorrow is my first official day back.  Part of me is ready to go back and the other part of me wants to spend more time with my boys.  Today I am linking up with my Best Blogging Buddies over at Collaboration Cuties for their weekly Mentor Text.

I know that mentor text are normally picture books but sometimes chapter books can lend themselves as mentor text as well; like Magic School Bus: Amazing Magnetism.  One of the first standards we cover in Science is CCS 4.P.1.1: explain how magnets interact with all things made of iron and with other magnets to produce motion without touching them.  I plan to use parts of this book to help teach the concept of magnetism because I have found many picture books on magnets that are well below the level of instruction needed for our fourth grade skill.  Students LOVE Mrs. Frizzle, which is another reason I plan to use this book!

Along with this mentor text I will be using my Magnets Interactive Science Notebook to ensure my students have mastered this concept with TpT's BTS Sale it is only $2.20!

If you follow I {Heart} Recess on FB did you grab the new "Back to School" Freebie?  If you don't follow on FB please do and grab a great freebie to use with your students :)
