It's been a WEEK since I have blogged!  The past week was a busy week for us, every time I turned around we had somewhere to be (soccer, church, meetings, etc.).  Thursday was my middle guy's 5th birthday so we had a great day celebrating his day along with playing with his new fart gun!  {Yep, regretting that purchase.}

I failed to take an updated picture of our "Seuss-perb Data" board yesterday so this will have to do for now.

To keep my students motivated to meet their Accelerated Reader and Accelerated Math Goals I have them set a class goal.  This is the first year I am implementing this and the first week I started it as well. :)  My students AR goals are set based on their STAR reading test and they aren't given the opportunity to give any input.  They do not have ACC Math goals, but are encouraged to do well on their assignments.

To set our class goals I let the class know how many points they currently had, current class comprehension, and current ACC math objectives mastered.  They then shouted out some numbers to represent their weekly goal.  We discussed the importance of setting goals that are achievable, but not too easy at the same time.  We set our goals on Wednesday and they had already eared 75 AR points, 85% AR comprehension, and 181 ACC Math objectives mastered.  They decided to set their goals at 90 AR points, 85% comprehension, and 190 ACC Math objectives mastered.  They then set a goal for the number of students who completed all of their homework for the week, they set the goal of 18 students.

Once we set our goals, Thursday and Friday more students were taking AR test and more where completing their ACC Math assignments.  I did not tell the students what they would receive if they met their class goals, I wanted them to work extra hard this week :)  Yesterday, at the end of the day I announced that they had 105 AR points, 84% comprehension, 219 ACC Math objectives mastered, and exactly 18 students who completed all of their homework for the week!  They met 3/4 of their goals and exceeded two of their goals!  I was so proud of them!

I informed them we would set new goals on Monday for the week and they had the weekend to think about setting those goals.  They were super excited to learn that they each earned $3 for our classroom economy for reaching 3/4 of their goals.

I promise to post an updated picture Monday...Tuesday the latest :)

Can you believe how fast summer is going by!  Many of us are headed back to school this month {August} and with a new month and school year ahead of us it's time to set some goals!

First, I did pretty good with my July goals I have tried many more recipes with veggies, I can now squat correctly, and I created a few new TpT products.  Overall July was a productive month for me.
Now to look forward into the approaching school year....

Personal:  I plan to leave school no later than 3:30 so I can continue on my journey to a healthy new lifestyle.  I want to continue to workout daily and work on my weight loss goals.

Organization:  I am pretty good at grading papers, but putting them into the online grade book is another story.  I do not keep a paper grade anymore because I would wait to the very last minute to input my grades and end up with tons of grades to put in.

Planning:  I have already mapped out and planned most of my curriculum for the first nine weeks.  This is because the first few months are pretty hectic and I am trying to avoid that at all cost.  I would like to continue to stay two weeks ahead, I plan ELA with my teammate so this should be doable.

Professional:  My goal this year is to implement the workshop teaching method in several subjects.  I am sure this will be a bit overwhelming at first but I have done a lot of reading this summer and I have a pretty good idea of how I want to run things.

Students: My goal for my students this year is for them to enjoy learning.  I want them to find a passion for learning and enjoy being challenged.  In today's society hard work is lacking {in my opinion} and everything is "handed" to people.  I want my student's to feel that excitement when they learn a new skill, and use hard work to master their multiplication facts.

Motto:  I chose Proverb 22:6 for my motto this year; "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it."  This goes along with the goal I have for my students.  I want them to learn the importance of hard work and take that with them through the rest of their lives.  I also hope to "train" them with compassion, empathy, and respect.

It's a new month (well close enough), time to reflect on last months goals and create some new ones!  So how did you do last month?

I didn't do to well with my health goal, I only went to the gym once and went on two walks.  I didn't meet my personal goal, but ONLY went to Walmart two times!  That's pretty good for me :)  I did accomplish my School goal!  I didn't bring a stack of papers home once in May!

Onto a new month!

Personal:  I need to clean out closets and kitchen cupboards!  I can't find anything I need without junk falling out.

Family:  I didn't do this as much as I wanted in May, but look forward being able to take them to the park, pool, and splash park this summer.

Health: I NEED to cut back on the Dew, I REALLY NEED to cut it out completely but working on baby steps. :)

School:  Let's face it, we never stop working on school stuff.  I am going to work on some new ELA plans for next year.  I would like to get at least two weeks done in June.

Blog/TpT:  I have just finished up my classroom theme pack and math centers for 4th grade.  I have a few other products I would like to get done before we go back.

Read:  Right now I only have two books on my Summer Reading List, Girls with Swords and Wonder.  I started Girls with Swords last month, it is a GREAT book about women have God's Word as their sword.  I've read a few blog post about Wonder and read the Amazon review on it, I can't wait to read it!

WOW!  That was a fun giveaway!  Thanks again to all who donated their products!  If you have not received your email I will catch up on them later today :)

I recently met by 2013 blogging goal and it had me thinking...which can be scary at times; we often require our students to set goals for themselves, but fail to set them for ourselves.  I created some goals for myself for the month of May and thought you too might want to set some goals for yourself :)

Personal:  I REALLY need to cut back on my spending this month and it is IMPOSSIBLE to go into Walmart and come out with ONE item!  Just hope I can get my hubby to set the same goal :)

Health:  Since my back injury I haven't visited the gym.  I did start walking to ease back into working out and feel I might be ready to hit the gym again.  I am just really scared of injuring myself again.

Blogging:  I NEED to reread my post before posting them.  Often I will go back and read a post and think, "WOW! What was I doing while typing that!?!"  I apologize for past misspellings, run on sentences, and random mistakes.

School:  We are almost out for summer and our state testing takes place this month.  With all the stress and chaos my goal is to at least grade papers at school and NOT bring them home.

Fun: We are having some beautiful spring weather, FINALLY, and I would like to spend more time outside in it with my boys.  They LIVE outside!  I need to get better at putting away technology and spend more time with them, they grow up way too fast!

What are your goals for the month of May?
